About Sioux Tempestt
Sioux Tempestt is a contemporary artist specialising in public art, with a passion for transforming everyday environments into engaging, meaningful experiences. Her work spans murals, sculpture and integrated architectural elements, often drawing inspiration from the histories, ecologies and communities of each site. Whether working on a transport hub, school, or civic space, her goal is to create artworks that are not only visually compelling but that also foster a strong sense of place and connection.
Much of her practice centres on interpreting local narratives through a contemporary lens – using abstraction, pattern, colour and layered forms to build works that resonate with a broad audience. She enjoys working closely with stakeholders and communities to ensure each project is grounded in its environment and purpose. From exploring industrial heritage and natural waterways to capturing the movement of people across space, she aims to design works that speak to both the larger context and the smaller human moments within it.
Alongside her public art practice, Sioux maintains a studio-based practice where she explores similar themes on a more intimate scale. She experiments with works on paper, mixed media, and sculptural forms that inform and support her larger commissions. This studio work allows Sioux the freedom to test new ideas, refine her visual language, and continually evolve her creative approach.
Sioux also has a strong interest in community engagement and education, facilitating workshops for young people, schools and intergenerational groups. These programs are an important part of her practice, allowing her to share her skills and passion while encouraging others to connect with art in new and inclusive ways. Across all areas of her work, she is driven by a belief in the power of art to activate space, tell stories and create shared experiences.
In addition to her visual arts practice, Sioux writes essays and poetry exploring memory, observation and the psychological dimensions of place. Her first book INNOMINATE was published in 2021, blending poetic fragments and mixed media artworks. She also releases instrumental music under the pseudonym ABSTRKT XNOIS, using layered audio textures to investigate mood, disruption and urban atmospheres. Sioux's video work has been shortlisted in various short film festivals, with a focus on non-linear narrative and abstracted visual storytelling that complements her wider multidisciplinary practice.

‘Sioux Tempestt approaches all aspects of a project with thoroughnes and professionalism: from developing and presenting a creative concept, to skilfully applying paint and on to providing documentation to complete a project. Sioux and her team have been a pleasure to work with, and the Public Transport Authority and our patrons have been delighted with her colourful artwork, Currents (2025), which has transformed the underpasses at Currambine Station.’

‘I’ve worked with Sioux on numerous projects since 2013. She is a highly professional, reliable, and adaptable artist who brings creativity and care to every project. Sioux has a powerful artistic vision and a thoughtful approach to each site. Her abstract murals are uniquely tailored to their surroundings and quickly become much-loved features of the community, enriching public spaces in bold and inspiring ways. Recently, I gave her full creative freedom on a footpath mural, and the result was vibrant, unexpected, and entirely successful - a fabulous addition to the space.’
